Pistol Optics FUNDAMENTALS & proficieny

The effectiveness of slide mounted pistol optics (Red Dot Sight) is difficult to refute and is why they're rapidly becoming the primary aiming system for countless shooters, both recreational and occupational. Anyone who's adopted this system of aiming first discovered that achieving positive results required overcoming a learning curve. While definitely not an insurmountable task, the transition from traditional iron sighted shooting to a pistol optic aiming system does require an open mind, willingness to adapt, and motivation to change. My methodology in teaching the use of this system offers simplicity based on measurable and objective solutions in developing fundamentally sound shooting performance.

Mandatory Equipment:

  • 1 functional/reliable semi-automatic pistol equipped with a properly installed slide mounted optic system and back-up iron sights viewable through the lower portion of the optic window.
  • Extra batteries for your optic.
  • 1 functional tool for elevation/windage adjustments on your optic.
  • 3 functional pistol magazines minimum. Bring more if you have them.
  • 1 high quality holster compatible with the pistol to be used. The holster must be functional, in acceptable condition, and capable of securing the pistol without question. Normal wear and tear sustained through duty use or daily carry is acceptable. Serpa holsters, damaged holsters, or old/worn leather holsters will not be allowed on the firing line.
  • 1 magazine holder/pouch capable of securing a minimum of 2 pistol magazines on the belt. Additional holders/pouches or those capable of securing multiple magazines are acceptable.
  • 1 sturdy belt of high quality capable of bearing the pistol/holster weight without sagging or allowing the holster to move away from the body while drawing the pistol.
  • Adequate hearing protection.
  • Adequate eye protection.
  • Baseball style cap with full brim.
  • Hydration source.
  • Black Sharpie
  • 1000 rounds of quality ammunition

Recommendations / Suggestions:

  • If you have access to extra equipment, bring back-ups to what you feel necessary.
  • Treat your optic glass with an anti-fog solution.
  • If you’ve had your system for a while and haven’t changed your optic battery in 6 months to a year, go ahead and change the battery prior to class.
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellant
  • Rain gear

Prerequisite

A prerequisite to this course is having previously completed a fundamental pistol class administered by a recognized instructor and/or school.

- Concealed Carry Endorsement classes         alone do not satisfy this requirement.

Students must be capable of comfortably performing at a basic to intermediate skill level.

All in attendance must be competent in firearms safety, the fundamentals of pistol shooting, and pistol handling/manipulation.

Any student who appears unprepared or unfamiliar with firearms safety will be dismissed (without refund) and given the option to enroll in a future course after adequate preparation.
